This rococo cartel clock is cast and chased with shellwork and scrolls and surmounted by a huntsman holding a spear and a hound pursuing a winged dragon. It loosely resembles clocks by Charles Cressent, and appears to be contemporary to these (such as F92 in the Wallace Collection) but does not match the quality of his sculpture or chasing. It may have originally been intended to fit onto a shaped cartouche on the wall panelling of an alcove, perhaps in a bedroom. It has been the subject of several alterations, including a replacement bezel and glass pendulum panel and the addition of an oak frame at the back to give it support on a flat wall surface.
